He club was formed in the early 1880s and was the first tennis club to be formed in the city of Cincinnati. From the time of its formation, the Cincinnati tennis club has always remained popular with the people of the city and in the present times, its membership is associated with prestige and social standing. Cincinnati tennis club was started by Mr. Stewart Shillito after he had been inspired by visiting other clubs in the country.

The club was an instant hit amongst the people and its growth was rapid as the years progressed. Cincinnati club has also influenced the formation of other similar clubs in the city and also in its surrounding areas. The club did not have a permanent place during the formative years and had to move to three different locations before settling down in the location that was rented out by one of its original members. The place was later acquired by the club and additional tennis courts and buildings were further added onto the existing infrastructure.

The Cincinnati club gained its popularity due to the Tri state tournament that is organized and conducted for many decades, starting from the early 1900s.

This tournament attracted the top players of the generations and was considered to be one of the most prestigious tournaments in the country. This tournament is currently being conducted at a different location under the name of Western Southern Financial Group Masters Womens Open. Cincinnati tennis club always boasted of high quality tennis courts and state of the art facilities throughout the years.

In fact, a Davis cup tie was also conducted in its premises in the mid 60s. The facilities and courts are top class to this very day and are very popular with the people. The club members include many national level and international level players. They also include many prominent political and business personalities as well.
